What does it mean that you are certified gluten-free?
At Sanctuary, your safety is our top priority. We’re proudly Certified Gluten-Free through GFFS (Gluten-Free Food Service) — a program that ensures every step of our process meets strict gluten-free standards.
This certification means more than just using gluten-free ingredients. It guarantees that no gluten ever enters our kitchen or store, from ingredients and supplies to the food our team prepares and serves. Even our staff and customers help us maintain this standard by keeping all outside gluten products out of the space.
By eliminating the risk of cross-contact entirely, we’re able to provide a truly safe environment where you can enjoy your meal with confidence. When we say gluten-free, we mean it — always.
What other allergens can you avoid?
We know that living gluten-free often comes with other dietary challenges — and we’re here to make life a little easier. That’s why we take our commitment one step further by maintaining a completely wheat-free and nut-free facility. Many of our customers face multiple food sensitivities, and we want everyone to feel safe and cared for when they walk through our doors.
Nearly all of our products are naturally dairy-free or available in a dairy-free option, recognizing the strong connection between celiac disease and dairy intolerance. We also strive to keep our menu as soy-free as possible, using simple, wholesome ingredients whenever we can.
If you have a specific allergy or need something custom-made, we’re happy to help! Just send us an email — we’ll gladly prepare a small, personalized batch so you can enjoy your favorite treats without worry.
What flour do you use?
Ah, the age-old question! We’d love to tell you exactly what’s in our secret blend... but then we’d have to make you do the dishes. 😉
What we can share is that the majority of our flours are rice-based, carefully crafted to create that perfect texture and flavor in every bite. We don’t technically use an “all-purpose” flour—each recipe has its own special mix of starches and ingredients, fine-tuned to make our baked goods the best they can be.
For those with a rice allergy, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered! We keep an oat-based flour blend on hand that we can substitute upon request. While we don’t use it in our regular products, we’re happy to custom-make items using it (just let us know by email).
And of course, for any allergen concerns, we’ll always provide full ingredient details—just not all of our secrets!
Where are you located?
You can find us right off North East Street in Frederick, MD, nestled in Everedy Square and Shab Row. We’re facing the parking lot, so if you spot Take Root or Talbots from the street, you’re almost there! Just loop into the lot, and you’ll see us waiting with something delicious and gluten-free.
Do you have indoor seating?
We don’t have indoor seating, but that doesn’t mean you can’t stay awhile! Our outdoor patio features beautiful bistro tables, perfect for enjoying your gluten-free meal in the fresh air. On a sunny day, it’s one of the best spots in town to relax, unwind, and savor something delicious from Sanctuary.
Do you cater events?
While Sanctuary Modern Kitchen doesn’t offer full meal catering at this time due to space limitations, we specialize in creating memorable moments through our handcrafted treats. From artfully arranged dessert spreads and curated charcuterie boxes to custom cakes, cupcakes, and personalized special requests, we bring flavor, style, and creativity to every occasion. Whether it’s an intimate gathering, a celebratory event, or a thoughtful gift, our offerings are designed to delight your guests and make your moments truly unforgettable.
